he Electronic Gas & Brake System for the year 2000 and Beyond! Don't be mislead by "look-alike" products. There is only one EGB!

The EGB-SS is the latest model Electronic Gas & Brake System manufactured by EMC. It is designed to operate the accelerator and brake of virtually any motor vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission and power brakes from a convenient joystick control module. The connections are simple and the space required minimal, allowing easy and versatile positioning for an optimum fit.

The brake is actuated through an electric servomotor that applies force by means of a drive arm and roller designed to ride on the pedal. The accelerator is accessed via a cable that is attached to the accelerator pedal linkage and is driven by a spool in the servomotor. The powerful 4-pole motor can provide vehicle braking even when there is no power assist available from the vehicle. An external backup battery source combined with redundant power circuits within the controller, maintain power to the system if there is a loss of the vehicle primary 12vDC supply. In the unlikely event of brake failure, the EGB-SS accesses the electric parking brake in a momentary fashion when full brake is applied. The emergency brake access can be used to stop the vehicle.

EGB-SS is proportional control made easy!

The road "feel" of the EGB-SS is totally unique due to its patented design incorporating "low effort" actuation of the joystick resulting in smooth acceleration and braking commands.

As the Electronic Gas & Brake System for the year 2000 and beyond, the EGB-SS is years ahead of its time and comes standard with features that our competition can only dream about!

Universal Application Design means fewer "custom" parts. The EGB-SS can be removed from one vehicle and installed in another if frequent vehicle trading is in your plans.

Multiple Electronics and Power Supplies eliminate the need for cumbersome braking backup systems. Only four wires connect under the hood of your vehicle.

Modular Design means quicker service and maintenance appointments. EGB-SS does not interfere with the factory controls so conventional operation is as simple as pushing a switch.

Made for the Year 2000 and Beyond means leading edge technology. EGB-SS is "intelligent" and will keep you notified of system status via the Command Module.

Joystick Control Module

  Joystick Control Module

The EGB-SS Joystick Control Module is compact in design and can be mounted anywhere in the driver area. A single cable is all that is required to connect it to the Gas/Brake servomotor.

The joystick has a patented "Forced-Feedback" mechanism, which allows the user to adjust the force requirements of the handle between six oz. and two lbs. It is spring-loaded for full return to center and has a versatile lever for easy mounting of almost any required orthotic device. EMC manufactures many different orthotic interfaces to meet your needs (see orthotic devices).

The EGB-SS can also be ordered for either brake forward or gas forward applications. This versatility allows your evaluator to customize the product to suit your needs.

The circuitry for operating the electric parking brake as an emergency backup brake is already built-into the controller. In fact, this safety feature is part of the standard configuration of the EGB-SS.

Gas/Brake Servomotor

  Gas/Brake Servomotor

The EGB-SS Gas/Brake servomotor is identical to the proven design used in Digidrive II and comes completely assembled and calibrated, ready to plug in. This compact, powerful design bolts to the floor of your vehicle to the left of the factory brake pedal and the integral drive arm simply pushes on the brake pedal with no additional mechanical linkages and does not impair able-bodied operation of the factory gas and brake pedals. EGB-SS puts you in complete control as the servo communicates "positional feedback" information back to the Joystick Control Module whenever you accelerate or brake using the joystick. No modifications to the factory brake cylinder or booster are required due to the powerful 4-pole motor design, capable of delivering greater than 200 in-lbs of torque. The "Quad" Brush design also provides redundancy in the form of to separate pairs of motor windings.

For additional safety, the Gas/Brake servomotor also incorporates an accelerator release mechanism. This component of the control automatically releases the accelerator if power to the servomotor is lost or if either of the two control harnesses is severed.
